Welcome to the Reading Horizons company blog! We have 25 years of literacy education under our belts and feel that we have a lot valuable information that we are excited to share with our readers. We have four department heads that will be posting on the blog. Tyson Smith (President and CEO), Heidi Hyte (Curriculum), Mauro Carlini (Sales Manager) and myself, Erika Hansen (Marketing Manager). 2009 is a big year for our company. We are celebrating our 25th year anniversary. You may have noticed the banner on our home page highlighting quotes from various people who have used our reading program over the years. I had a lot of fun gathering the list and seeing how many individuals have been empowered to read. I love being apart of something that I truly believe in and to be associated with co-workers, administrators and people who teach reading and believe in the power of literacy. The reading strategies taught work. One of the best things about being on the marketing team is that I get to hear all the success stories. One of my favorites is from Larry McCall, 53, of New York. He just sent us this tape and I was touch by how genuine he was.
“Inside the grown man was a little boy and the boy was hurting and he was in a lot of pain. But coming to the literacy place, they boy inside the grown man started to heal. When I say started to heal I mean I started to feel better about myself as a person. This program has taught me patience, vocabulary, and the vowels. It was able to show me how to read!” So powerful! Reading strategies can not only improve reading skills but can change a person’s life.
