Never Too Late to Learn to Read

by Erika

I was talking to a man on the phone today.  He said that he was 65 years old and had never been able to read well.  He recently discovered that he was dyslexic.  He relayed to me over the phone that he was angry that no one and told him about dyslexia or that he may have a reading disability.  He has gone his whole life not being able to read and felt that now was the time to start.  He inquired about our reading program and as I told him about the five phonetic skills and two decoding skills he got very excited. He felt that those were the reading skills he lacked and wanted to learn.  I got him in touch with a center in his area that has the Reading Horizons software program.  He was very excited and told me that he had a thirst for knowledge! I am impressed by teachers and instructors who dedicate their lives to helping people, like this man, read.  It truly is never too late to start learning how to read!
