What kind of teacher are you? Do you wish you could more efficiently help your students learn to read, or do you feel you are doing your best to reach each and every student? Are there students that you are having a difficult time reaching with your reading instruction? What are you doing about it? Is there a gap between what type of teacher you are what type of teacher you want to be?

This past month our Reading Horizons Book Club read the book Fierce Conversations by Susan Scott. In the book Scott continuously emphasizes how important it is to be your authentic self and match your ideals with your actions. In fact, acting according to your ideals has been found to have a larger impact on your immune system than even your diet and exercise habits.
So what does this have to do with all the questions that started this post? Well, if you find that you are not satisfied with your answer to any of those questions, then there is a gap between the type of teacher you are and the type of teacher you want to be. And as Scott points out in the book, this has a large impact on your health, your happiness, and how you feel about yourself.
If you do feel a gap between your current teaching ability and your ideal teaching ability, here are some free resources Reading Horizons provides to help you get closer to becoming an effective reading teacher for all of your students (struggling or not):
