It made me cry. Especially watching the struggling readers and the segment on the competitive nature of school lotteries.
I just watched John Stossel’s 20/20 segment on Stupid in America. How sobering to think that students throughout the world are kicking our academic beehinds... with fewer resources.
Additionally, I couldn’t help but notice that a KIPP school is featured in the segment. KIPP Philadelphia successfully uses Reading Horizons v5, an online reading software that teaches how to teach (reading) and students how to read. To learn more, click here >
Something else occurred to me while watching the story. Parents need to pay attention to the education that their children are getting and they MUST be involved in what is happening at the school, district, and union or legislative levels. We can no longer afford to sit by and hope it all works out.
While you may, or may not, agree with everything that John Stossel produced in this piece, he did get something right when he said, “Thanks for watching our show on education, I hope it starts a debate.”
So do I John. So do I.
