STUDENT ENGAGEMENT

The Lexile® Framework for Reading evaluates reading ability and text complexity on the same developmental scale. Unlike other measurement systems, the Lexile Framework determines reading ability based on actual assessments, rather than generalized age or grade levels. Recognized as the standard for matching readers with texts, tens of millions of students worldwide receive a Lexile measure that helps them find targeted readings from the more than 100 million articles, books and websites that have been measured. Lexile measures connect learners of all ages with resources at the right level of challenge and monitors their progress toward state and national proficiency standards. More information about the Lexile® Framework can be found here.

WHAT'S NEW?

READING ASSESSMENT

Use a trusted source to validate student gains

The new Reading Assessment makes it easy for teachers to validate student gains on the Reading Horizons Discovery software. The assessment was created in partnership with Metametrics® using the Lexile® Framework for Reading.

The assessment is purchased as a software add-on and can be used three times throughout the school year. By monitoring each student’s Lexile measure, you can connect students with texts that match their reading level.

CHECK-UP SYSTEM

Keep a pulse on student progress

The new check-up system in the Reading Horizons Discovery software gives you a way to check student understanding after each skill is taught.

Assess Direct Instruction

The check-up system can be used for both software and direct instruction—giving you a simple way to assess the effectiveness of your direct instruction and adapt it based on student data.

Facilitate Blended Learning

The check-up system also facilitates blended learning by connecting both software and direct instruction efforts.

iPAD APP

Increased access for students

The new Reading Horizons Discovery App increases access to the software both inside and outside of the classroom. The app also makes it easier for students who are still developing basic computer skills to access the software.

Implementation Coaching

Maximize student progress

We have created the Implementation Coach Program to give teachers a mentor as they implement the program in their schools. That way, you can be confident that the program is implemented to maximize student gains in reading.

The Implementation Coach Program provides each school with an initial 2-day training, 2 coaching days during the school year, and unlimited access to an Implementation Coach through online meetings, email, and phone calls throughout the school year.

Accelerate Website

Need an extra hand?

The Reading Horizons Accelerate website was designed to support teachers as they implement the program. In addition to how-to videos and resources, we have added the Community Forum and the Lesson Planner.

The Community Forum allows customers to post questions and share tips with their own school or to the entire Reading Horizons customer community.

The Lesson Planner was created to facilitate blended learning by helping teachers cater direct instruction based on student progress. By using the software data from the check-ups and lessons, the Lesson Planner aggregates the data to create student groupings based on the level of each student for each specific lesson, while connecting teachers with a myriad of resources for delivering effective lessons.
