Lemons for Literacy - Donation Program

Reading Horizons is committed to helping students of all walks of life learn to read. Our mission statement for the past 24+ years has read:

Reading Horizons respects the inherent dignity and worth of every individual. We believe, in a very real sense, that the effective or ineffective functioning of people is this world's greatest source of progress and happiness or its greatest source of regression and frustration. We are concerned about the growing population of youth and adults who cannot participate in the mainstream of society because they have not learned to read. We recognize that illiteracy ties us to our past with all its limitations; learning to read connects us to our future with its unlimited potential. We are equally concerned about the lack of proper instruction for teachers at all levels, especially elementary school teachers who are entrusted with our children and, thus, our future. It is imperative that students and teachers alike are given the tools and training that they need to succeed. As our company name suggests, our goal is to provide a dynamic, successful way for people to reach beyond their bounds and discover new horizons by learning to read.

Accordingly, Reading Horizons is dedicated specifically to helping individuals learn to read to better prepare them to accomplish real-life tasks that face them every day, as well as to empower them with the ability to create opportunities to expand their horizons in the future. To that end, Reading Horizons has established the "Lemons for Literacy" Donation Program to help institutions acquire the tools to improve literacy instruction. Please review the following guidelines to learn more:

Reading Horizons has developed an engaging web-based vocabulary tool that allows individuals to improve their vocabulary while making donations to needy schools.
Lemons for Literacy will showcase a school and allow individuals from all across the world to donate "ounces" by playing a vocabulary matching game. Correct responses to the vocabulary questions will result in donations of lemonade, which eventually results in a product donation to the school.
Schools will be evaluated and placed on a list for eventual inclusion in the Lemons for Literacy program. All applicants are encouraged to play Lemons for Literacy to assist other schools to receive their donation. Doing so will accelerate the donation for schools in the queue.
Reading Horizons will provide schools that are selected with up to $5,000 in software to be used at the location specified in the donation application.
Reading Horizons accepts and reviews donation applications year round.
Reading Horizons retains sole discretion concerning the qualifications of each school to receive the award.
Reading Horizons will require that the recipient(s) report progress for the first year.
Additional "money-matching" awards will be offered on a limited basis. (Reading Horizons will match the amount paid by the school to obtain the product.)
