Every reading program must give students an ample opportunity to practice while enjoying themselves. This program not only gives them a wide selection of genres from which to choose, but it also helps them assess their progress and try to reach a higher level. Providing passages that are not as long as a book is also good as a stepping stone to try a book.

This software has the content and appeal that I need to reach my secondary special education students whose reading capability remains far below their peers. I have been searching for software that would address their needs and appeal to their interests. The program had to also be very student friendly allowing them to easily navigate through the material with minimum adult guidance. I believe your new software fits those needs.

The library component is fabulous. I really like that students are able to choose the the topics that interest them the most and there are many selections with many genres. I believe this will keep students more engaged. Also, with any reading program, choice is crucial to success.

I am glad that there are a lot of different activities on the software. This will give students the chance to practice their skills in many different ways. Research shows that struggling students need more practice on skills in order to master them. It helps that students are able to take skills tests and skip those areas that they are already competent in. This helps them to feel that the software is targeting their own personal skills deficits.

It seems like the authors have thought of everything. One feature that I'm glad to see included in the new software is the narrations and lesson summaries in the students native language. This way, their understanding of the lesson concept(s) is not left to chance. Secondly, I think that being able to record their own pronunciations and then compare them to a native speaking English narrator's pronunciation is an invaluable tool to a second language learner. I am excited about the fact that the v5 software allows students to show what they already know about a concept so that they don't spend unnecessary time going over material that they already know. I also like the idea of students having opportunities to use their skills in the context of real life situations. It also sounds like there are ample opportunities for students to reinforce the concepts they are learning. All-in-all this software seems to offer many solutions to the problems of teaching reading to students who have been struggling. Hurray!

I am eager and thrilled to start the Reading Horizons Program with my clients. I work with adults who are developmentally challenged. Three times a week I work with 25 clients on their reading skills using the old version of the reading horizons program. It is a pleasure to know that this version will allow students more control in navigating the software and trying activities that the want to try. My clients will like that. I am also excited about skills check and the skills summary, for each student works at different speed and levels. In the old verison, my cients would become bored with a lesson that the know well and want to move on. Unfortunately, they couldn't move on to the next lesson unless they completed the entire lesson. They will also love this feature. I am looking forward to working with them on this version.

I am sure that this software could change a student's life. The self centered approach and the multifaceted opportunities here are motivating to students. I have seen students who in a classroom situation tune out - but alone on the computer looking at their challenges and progress - it can make a huge difference. Students who see immediate feedback garner self-confidence - especially when they are learning - no matter how quickly, slight improvements are motivating. The pronunciation tool is GREAT!!! What a relief for students! Students often do not know how to pronunciate a word. And, then they don't understand it when it is said - as well. I constantly model the lips and mouth - but cannot draw a wit - having access to your models is a wonderful learning tool.

The most important part of the software for me would be the diagnostic assessment. As an alternative school teacher, I have particular issues with student transiency and lack of up-to-date records, so the initial assessment to determine placement would provide immediate and useful data for me. I also like the fact that the students get to choose which selections to read. With at-risk high school students, that element of choice is important. They are more likely to read something that they pick than they are to read something that they are told to read. In allowing them a degree of independence while still being guided by level of performance, it empowers the students to take responsibility for their own learning.

I have been tutoring a 20 year old male stdent who has dyslexia and ADHD for about a year I took a tour of the old website and copied everyting I could. He did so well with the tecniques he learned. He told me that for the first tme he was "getting it". I know he will love the latest improvements. I was so incredibly impressed with the prvious things we learned by taking the tour I can't wait to add some of the new improvements. I love the way things are presented in your program. The constant reinforcement is so wonderful for someone with the problems he has and it makes t clear to him for the first time.

I am really pleased to see the software is now capable of being competency based. I think it's a great feature that students do not have to practice over and over skills they have already mastered. I also was glad to hear the usage of daily/real-life content and application. This really helps students see the need for reinforcement and skill practice.

I'm very excited about the skill check included before each lesson of v5. As a high school reading teacher, there are so many gaps in learning for my students. So many sequential programs don't allow for the fact that my students don't necessarily need taught EVERYTHING!!! This programs ability to do a skill check before and then go directly to the skill summary if possible will be a great help!

I was very impressed when using your program to teach my student the 5 Phonetic Skills. After trying several others things with not much success, she caught on to your process very quickly. Now she is delighted that she is able to read the credits at the end of a movie without asking anyone to read them for her. Her friends have noticed and she is elated. It sounds like your new program is even more individualized than ever before and I can't wait to try it.

Wow! V5 has many new features for individualized learning, that I am truly excited about ... from pretests to student competency, transference of skills learned to real life situations, engaged MCW practice, individualized pacing and enhanced student choices. This new software will augment and engage more students in the process of reading.

I am fully excited by the whole software, but the feature that I am more intrigued by is the adjustment of the lesson tracks that provides additional help when needed. I have been using the previous version of Reading Horizons for 2 years, and I can also justify the addition of the pronunciation proficiency tool and the native language narrations will be beneficial for ELL students. First English is not their native language, and pronunciation is the most difficult obstacle. The pronunciation proficiency will be helpful not only for students, but for ELL teachers too. Finally listening the narrations in both languages, English and their native language will be a boost of motivation in their English learning.

I am excited that v5 will allow the student to change the screen background color. We have several low-vision students, and we are always interested in adaptive equipment and software that will accommodate various needs for screen appearance. When a student is able to clearly see what he/she is reading, it can make a huge difference in fluency and comprehension!

I'm excited about the student-centered approach the v5 software encompasses. Not only is it an interesting feature but it will also help the software reach its ultimate goal: teaching students to read!

The Library you've added is fantastic. This is just the component we have needed to bridge the gap for struggling readers.
