New Additions to the Reading Horizons Teacher's Kit

The Decoding Strategies for Literacy Development Condensed Manual

The Decoding Strategies for Literacy Development Condensed Manual, previously called the "Decoding Strategies for Literacy Development," has been reworked extensively to correlate with the Reading Horizons v5 software. Lesson numbers in the manual match the lessons on the software. In addition, the following modifications and enhancements were made:

  • The lessons have been organized into 68 skill lessons and 13 Most Common Words lessons.
  • The layout of the manual includes easy-to-use sections divided into "Teacher Information," "Teacher Instruction," and "Student Involvement."
  • Word lists and word banks in Student Involvement sections have been modified to reflect high-frequency words.
  • ESOL Notes have been included in tabbed sections throughout the manual.
  • FYI Notes have been inserted to provide supplemental teacher information about the material taught.
  • References to correlating Student Workbook pages have been inserted at the end of each lesson.
  • Colored chapter dividers were added that correlate with the color of RLCs used within that chapter.
  • A Skills Overview section for each lesson is included at the beginning of each lesson.
  • The Most Common Words lists have been reworked to include more high-frequency vocabulary words.
  • Additional information about how to teach Most Common Words appropriately has been added.
  • The Games and Activities section has been updated.
  • The ESOL Supplement and Appendix have been refined.
  • The index is more detailed and expanded.

The Decoding Strategies for Literacy Development Comprehensive Manual

The Decoding Strategies for Literacy Development Comprehensive Manual, previously called the "Teacher's Manual," has been reworked extensively to correlate with the Reading Horizons v5 software. The lesson content has been rewritten to appropriately match the maturity level of the students who will be instructed using this manual. Lessons are more concise, yet extremely thorough. Lesson numbers in the manual match the lessons on the software. In addition, the following modifications and enhancements were made:

  • The lessons have been organized into 68 skill lessons and 13 Most Common Words lessons.
  • The layout of the manual includes easy-to-use sections divided into "Teacher Information," "Teacher Instruction," and "Student Involvement."

Wall Posters

  • The Two Decoding Skills Poster was created to serve as a visual reminder similar to the Five Phonetic Skills Poster.
  • All posters have a new, updated look to reflect the new Reading Horizons logo and materials.
