Reading Horizons Sample Lessons
The following sample lesson downloads are meant to provide a brief overview of the Reading Horizons software.
These lessons have been pulled out of the context of the course, and would normally be prefaced with sequential instruction covering all previous aspects.
INSTRUCTIONS: Click the links below to download sample lessons. Save them to your desktop if asked.
Once the download has completed, double-click the file to open it. The file will be decompressed, and then it will launch.
The sample lesson will play. To exit, click the red 'Exit' button in the bottom right of the screen, or click the red 'X' in the upper right corner of the window.
NOTE: These sample lessons are currently only availabe for Windows.
Sample Lesson 5

This lesson teaches the consonants N, P, R, S and the vowel O.
Up to this point, students have learned several consonants and vowels.
They have also learned how to slide from a consonant to a vowel, and how to begin forming three letter words.
The marking system has been introduced as students place an X underneath the vowels.

Sample Lesson 17

This lesson teaches the fifth of the 5 phonetic skills.
Students have now learned all of the consonants and vowels, and know how to form words.
They have also learned the S, L, and R blends.
Students are now ready to be introduced to the 5 Phonetic Skills which teach them when a vowel will be long or short.

This lesson teaches the first of the 2 decoding skills.
Students have now learned how to form all kinds of single consonant words, and can now prove them using the 5 Phonetic Skills.
Now they are ready to learn the 2 Decoding Skills that teach them how to divide words into syllables.
