As a special education teacher who has been involved with Reading Horizons for six years, I smile often when asked, "Do you have a success story to share?" I can recall many student successes and smiles as students’ progress in their skills and reading gets easier. We have many times had students come to us with very little phonological skills, and once exposed to our direct instruction plus the online Reading Horizon's Elevate program, we see rapid growth in their skills and their willingness to read on their own.
The Union Gap School District recently received the 2015 Washington Achievement Award which is sponsored by the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction and by the Washington State Board of Education. This is the 3rd year in a row that the district has received this award. A total of 258 schools statewide received the 7th annual award out of approximately 2,368 schools. In addition, Union Gap is one of 92 schools in the entire state to be selected for the 2015 School of Distinction award. Union Gap is one of the 5% highest improving schools in the state of Washington for increased Reading and Mathematics achievement over the past six years. And within all of that data for those awards, Union Gap’s Special Education Growth scores are some of the highest in the state of Washington. Reading Horizons certainly is part of this outstanding achievement for our school community.
