Hey everyone! My name is Jordan Johns and I’m a 4th and 5th grade learning support teacher at an elementary school in rural Pennsylvania. I am so happy to share my RH success story with you!
Last year, I had a student diagnosed with Autism who was finding very little success with our core reading program. Her parents and I met to decide how we could make their daughter a successful, confident reader. Our answer...Reading Horizons Discovery!!
Isabelle was a 4th grade student last year. She was reading on a pre primer level and had great difficulty decoding words. Once I was trained, I began the RH Discovery program with Isabelle and all of my other 4th grade learning support students. (I should say that I have been a teacher for 15 years and had never heard of your program. I was overwhelmed and hoped this was our answer. I dove in and took the trainings on line and our district renewed their account.)
I have to admit at first, I was skeptical but I kept plugging away- using the multi-sensory approach, and wow- the results I saw were amazing. The students who generally had trouble paying attention were so involved in the lessons and so proud of themselves. Soon, my skepticism disappeared and I began telling anyone who would listen about your program.
Isabelle went from only decoding words sound by sound, to reading multi-syllabic words in just 7 short months. She completed lessons 1-72 with a 96% average. Isabelle is now able to read stories more fluently and has began to increase her comprehension. This year, I am using the Elevate program with this group of students so we can really hammer comprehension. Again, the results are amazing.
As a mom, learning support teacher and former Kindergarten teacher, I have never encountered a program such as yours that engages and encourages the students with such positive results. As I tell my RH groups, YOU ALL SHOULD PAT YOURSELVES ON THE BACK!
