The National Institute of Literacy advises, “Systematic and explicit phonics instruction is more effective than non-systematic or no phonics instruction.” Reading Horizons provides systematic, explicit and engaging practice in phonics instruction. It is the best supplement to any reading program. I cannot imagine teaching reading without it. I have seen students that were unaware of the difference between a consonant and a vowel, struggle with fluency, and become frustrated when reading change to students that know if a vowel is long or short and have the decoding skills to become fluent readers. Reading Horizons has been an excellent tool for the teachers at my school. It has helped teachers with their classroom reading instruction, it has helped our developing readers gain confidence in their reading abilities, and our fluent readers understand the why behind the words they read. It is simply amazing – Thank you Reading Horizons!
