North Salt Lake, UT
On June 2nd, 2014, the non-profit organization, RISE hosted a seminar to empower parents with strategies for helping struggling readers. Following the presentation, Reading Horizons donated 120 student software subscriptions among the 70 parents in attendance.
Reading Horizons Company President and Board Member of RISE, Tyson Smith said, “The mission of The Rise Institute for Literacy really amounts to improving literacy for everyone that needs it. The parent meeting that was held in Clearfield, Utah provided a wonderful opportunity to reach parents of struggling readers in a powerful way. I heard so many attendees say that they wished they had learned the concepts that were presented sooner and how great it felt to learn that they were not alone in the problems that they faced with their child.”
In response to a survey asking what their favorite part of the seminar was, here's what parents had to say:
“The idea that my child is intelligent but wired differently and there is a way to help him.”
“To know that my daughter isn’t the only one who guesses and such in her reading. Thank you!”
“I finally understand what is wrong and how to fix the problem.”
