Why Phonological Teaching Improves ELLs’ Literacy Skills
English Language Learners (ELLs) have a different sound system, different word pattern, different sentence structure, and different discourse pattern in their heads. How can we add new language patterns that will lead to advanced oral and written English proficiency? The goal is for ELLs to be able to correctly decode unfamiliar words as they encounter them, spell correctly, and recall mental imagery as fluent English readers and speakers.
