We have had 3 students finish this year and a fourth that will soon.
Jacob B. was struggling. He could not even write sentences that made sense. He went from reading on a 5th grade level to reading on a 10th grade level in my classroom. I was so proud of him. He was required as part of my class to write a journal entry every day. They went from not making much sense to being two to three line answers to a question that I would ask him. I was so proud of him!
Bradley P. began reading on a 4th grade level and had trouble with comprehension and remembering. He ended in the library reading on a 12th grade level and could remember many things about what he read by the end of the semester. He was such a hard worker that he and Jacob ended within 2 days of each other. Jacob had a rough beginning in my class as he had an accident and was out for about 9 days. He still caught up and worked so hard, that he was able to catch up and finish the program.
Jacob and Brad were in my first semester class.
Craig H. is my miracle child! He began reading on about a 5th grade level and his reading was choppy and not fluent. He went to share a book with a 6th grade class as part of the Builder's Club from the junior high, his 6th grade teacher was astounded! She couldn't believe that he was the same kid she had taught the year before. He had great expression and was fluent and very fun to listen to. Last year he hated reading and was hard to listen to. He kept the entire class's attention as he read to the class, which also surprised the teacher. Her kids hardly are quiet and don't listen to anyone, but they were totally into what he was reading to them, which was a long Dr. Seuss book. He is now reading on a 12th grade level and reads book after book at home for my class. He loves to read and he has learned so much! I am very proud of him.
Kanyon has been a struggling reader since about the 2nd grade. He has taken my class twice and is learning so much. Last time he almost finished the program, but we made him begin again. He had picked up skills that he has never had. He is trying and he has a great attitude and has grown up in so many ways. He will finish by the end of next week and then he will be able to work on some worksheets that I have prepared for him to see if he really can apply what he has learned.
Thank you so much for taking an interest in our kids! We are trying so hard to make a difference for them.
