One of our greatest successes is a 8th grade girl who started reading at a 3rd grade level. She never did homework and lacked confidence about trying most things. She was slow to get going and didn't work on Reading Horizons at home until I called her mom and encouraged her and re-explained the process. I also told her this was a big part of her grade and she was below failing currently.
Thankfully her mom helped her get computer time at home and this little girl started working on the Reading Horizons software lessons at home. She quickly found out how do-able it was—really very perfect for her reading level and needs. She immediately got excited and said, "I can do this!! It's fun!!" She got caught up pretty quickly, and now, a month later, she is staying caught up, paying better attention in reading class, scoring 100% on our class vocabulary tests and phonics pop-quizzes, confident, and showing almost 2 years' growth in reading. Quite amazing!
