Reading Horizons Review: Daniel Millenson

Tags: K-12 Intervention, Secondary, Student Stories

I just wanted to follow up on our previous correspondence by letting you know about the outcomes I saw from the student with whom I worked using the Reading Horizons program for secondary students. The student, as I mentioned before, is a senior who began the school year on a third grade reading level. By January, he was still on a third grade reading level, having grown only 0.2 years in a little over half the school year. However, after I convinced him to begin working with me after school almost daily for about thirty minutes using the Reading Horizons program, he grew two entire grade levels from late January through May. (I wish we'd started earlier; rushing, we only got through Unit Two.) As he began to hear differences in short vowel sounds, his reading began to improve measurably, and both he and I noticed the changes. By the end of the school year, we both felt confident enough for me to call on him at random to read passages to the whole class. I'd like to thank you for introducing me to your program.
