It is my pleasure to be dropping this note your way. I am so very pleased with Reading Horizons that I cannot keep from smiling every time I review our state test scores.
As I am sure that you know, the state of Minnesota requires all of the public school students to prove their proficiencies in reading, writing, and math. Due to your excellent curriculum, our scores are tops in the state at every level.
Our reading scores are well above state average at the third-grade level and the fifth-grade level. Our 8th graders have been the highest-scoring students in the state three of the last four years, scoring 98 percent and 100 percent. We all realize that writing and reading usually go hand in hand; writing scores at the 10th-grade level (are) 97 percent.
The Underwood students did not always score this well. In 1997-98, the scores were at 78 percent, with the state average at 68 percent. Even though we were above the state average, we were not where we wanted to be, and because of that we made some changes. I am glad one of our decisions was to go with Reading Horizons.
In closing, I want to thank you for the help, and I look forward to working with you in the future.
