I have a self-contained classroom with students who are really struggling in reading. These are students who are 4th-6th graders and are reading on 1st-4th grade levels.
When given DIBELS benchmarks, I have had half of these students needing to progress monitor either on phoneme segmentation or nonsense word fluency, a kindergarten or 1st grade skill. I just had most of these students meet their goal and move up to the next level to progress monitor. I know they have reached this success due to the daily lesson we have using Reading Horizons.
They are doing fewer reversals as they write and are starting to be more confident with their spelling as they are becoming better at hearing the sounds in words they say as they write.
