Reading Horizons has been really successful the short time that my students have used it. The students can't wait to go to the computer lab to get started. They have a competition among themselves to see who can get to the next level first. Their faces light up when they reach or exceed the benchmark score that is set for them and they have to let me know immediately.
I like the fact that when a concept is not mastered, it must be repeated before continuing on to another lesson. This sometimes frustrates the students, but it causes them to slow down and pay attention in order to master the idea. I like the reports that can be generated as data for parents, principals, and myself to document growth or to obtain grades for my reading class. My students and myself have only used the program about 2 1/2 months, but we all enjoy it. I look forward to starting out a whole year with the program next year and see what possiblities the students can achieve.
